CoolTick Stock Ticker needs a Net connection to work. Just like the tickers on Wall Street, this program scrolls the ticker name and current prices of your favorite stocks on a display bar. This bar can be easily resized or placed anywhere on your desktop. You also can control the speed and direction of the ticker or change font or color options. If you click a stock, a Web page opens displaying more detailed information about the stock and its history. We especially like the option to set alerts, whether for a stock price or for portfolio size. The only drawback we could find was the trial limitations. Even though you only can enter two stock tickers in the demo version, we found that was still sufficient to judge the program's merits. For day traders or those who enjoy the action on Wall Street, this compact, straightforward program is a good investment.
