England progressed to the next round of FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers after defeating Greece 5-0 at home, earning an 8-1 aggregate victory. The Lionesses eased any nerves of a Greek comeback early, as Alessia Russo and Lauren James connected for an early Russp goal. Shorty after it was the James’ turn, as James fired a thundering effort into the top corner. Stanway made it three later in the half, rising to me a cross with a passing header into the corner – before James found her brace on the end of a fantastic cross from Lauren Hemp. The hosts looked to extend their advantage in the second-half, but couldn’t break down the visitors defence – until Alessia Russo managed to expertly dance around the keeper to find a brace of her own. England managed the game from there, earning an iconic victory in Leicester and moving one step closer to FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification.
